Happy Chanukah!

We had so much fun celebrating Hannukah this year with Avery. It's so fun as they get older and actually understand what's going on.

Interesting fact I learned this year about Hannukah...I was searching on the correct spelling of Hannukah because I keep seeing it spelled so many ways and wanted to make sure I was spelling it right. Come to find out through my research, there is no 1 right way to spell Hannukah!! It is a Hebrew word translated into English, so there are many different ways of spelling it. There is no correct way to spell it in the English language. So, Hannukah, Hanukkah, Channuka, Chanukah, etc are all correct. What do you think about that!

Day 1: Avery woke up from nap a little grouchy so I asked her if she would like to come downstairs and celebrate Hanukah with Daddy, Ella and I. We could light the candles, sing our songs, and get a gift - well she jumped out of bed and was in a great mood right then. Gift?? Sure, eyes lighting up!

Avery and Ella on the 1st night...don't you just love the menorah, Turkey flowers on the table and the Christmas tree in the background. We celebrate everything here in the Penrod household :)

I did all her gifts small for each day of Hannukah except for the last day. Today's gift was a princess water-pen set.

Avery kept telling me Thank You Mommy all night for her gifts so I asked her what did she get me for Hanukkah. Here are my 2 gifts she gave me from her playroom:

Day 2: Paintable magnets for the fridge so she can hang her artwork. She copied the pattern that was on the package and Tim thought it looked so good that he thought I had painted them for her.

Day 3: Friday, Nana, Gigi and Uncle Kevin came over for dinner and to celebrate with us. Here's Uncle Kevin washing the dishes after dinner. Thx Kevin!

Avery and her almost finished craft house she got for the night. It was so cute!!

Her two helpers

Mommy and Aves with her finished house. They did such a good job putting it together. I love these kind of things and am so excited that she is getting older and we can do more fun crafts together!

Day 4 she spent at Darmi and Poppy's and had Hannukah over there!
Day 5: 3 presents tonight! 1st was Tim's medal for the White Rock half-marathon that Nathan and he ran in on Sunday. Awesome job guys! Finish time was 1 hour and 59 minutes and 21 seconds...just made it:) She also got a design your own flower pot with several patterned inserts. And, some holiday water cups for the season.

Day 6: Alicia and Shea came over to celebrate the 6th day of Chanukah with us. The "BIG" girls had so much fun catching up and drinking wine! The other "big" girls had such a great time playing together too. It's been way too long since we've seen Alicia and Shea so it was so nice to spend some time with them.

Dinner, playing and snoozing!

Day 7: a tinkerbell puzzle shaped like a butterfly! the menorah is getting pretty bright!

Day 8: the final day of chanukah :( we spend the last night of hannukah every year over at my parents house.

here's avery helping Poppy light the candles. she did this with me every night at our house too!

tim and sweet ella

singing our new hannukah song, O, Hannukah! we also sing this other song in hebrew but it's too hard for little aves and so i've decided that we will now sing our new song instead. we did both at darmi and poppy's. poor tim's ears! we are definitely not musically inclined on the finkelstein side :)

i LOVE this pic of Avery and Poppy! they are such best buds. it is so fun to watch them play together! they have the best time!

somehow, 95% of the gifts went to avery...how is that possible??

ella's thinking...just wait until next year - i'll be right there with you sister!

oh, yeah...a princess rattle!

checking out her stash after it was over. i'd say she did pretty good! i can only imagine what christmas will be like!

tim took avery home while i stayed and fed ella. some qt time with darmi and poppy before we left.

Happy Hannukah 2010!! Can't wait for next year for Ella to share in the festivities!!

Avery Says...

I've decided to start writing posts about what Avery says to me because the things that come out of her mouth sometimes really make me smile, even crack me up! It won't be something I do daily, but as often as she says something, or I remember! It will be fun to look back on when she's older.

Whenever we are running late, which seems like always, I start doing things fast and she always tells me Mommy you're so fast. Brushing her hair, helping her get her clothes on, leaving the house, buckling her up, you get the point. Anyways, the other day we were walking out the door and she said to me, "Mommy your a Fastpoke and I'm a Slowpoke"

Ella is 3 Months Old Today!!

Today Ella turns 3-Months old and you will probably see me post this at every age post for her, but "I can't believe she is already 3-Months old!!".

Tim and I were talking about this last night and it's unbelievable to us how fast time is flying with her. I remember with Avery just trying my hardest to get past the 1st few months because it had to get better than what it was and Avery was a really good baby - I chalk it up to new parent syndrome!! This time with Ella has been so much more enjoyable and we are actually able to enjoy her at such a young age. She is so sweet, such a good eater and sleeper and has such an easy-going disposition. I can't wait to see her continue to grow.

Things about Ella right now:

She is sleeping through the night and wakes up anywhere from 6:45 to 8:00. If it's before 7:15/:30 she joins us in bed for some snuggle time and extra zzz's. This is one of my favorite times of the day :)

She is starting to "talk" when she can and she loves to look you right in the eye and say something.

It is not hard to get her to smile and we are on the verge of giggling.

She LOVES looking at everyone and anything and especially giving smiles to Avery.

She enjoys reading books with us before bedtime.

She's a GREAT shopper (sorry Tim)!! She either is up looking around or snoozing in her car seat when we are out.

She still is not a big fan of tummytime but we keep trying. I'm not really interested in her rolling yet though so we'll see.

Her eye color varies from day to day but I think she will have brown eyes. And her eyebrows and eyelashes are darkening up but she's got some red in her hair just like me. We can't wait to see what and who she will look like.

Here she is "talking" to me today:

Happy Turkey Day!!

ugh...i'm so behind on my blogs! oh well, Happy Thanksgiving!!

we had a wonderful thanksgiving this year with our family. i know we are all biased in our own ways, but i truly feel like we have the BEST family and are so blessed to have everyone get along and enjoy being together. when i think of all the holidays we celebrate, thanksgiving is my favorite! i don't know if it's because we have everyone over to our house which Tim and I just love, if it's eating so much you are in a food coma by the end of the meal, and yes, this year molly and i were the ones taking a bite and then saying, mmmm, after every one, if it's because it starts off the holiday season, or if it's just being with family and enjoying a day together - maybe it's all of the above, but it's my favorite!

this year i am so thankful for so many things:

*my beautiful family that I simply adore!
Tim, my husband, my rock, my best friend. and though we have our ups and downs like any relationship, one of the nicest, handsomest, strongest men I know. I don't know where I would be without Tim by my side. I love you baby!
Avery Jordan - such a sweetheart, so happy and full of life, what a chatterbox you are and i love listening to you, that killer smile and personality.
Ella Ryann - i could not have asked for a more sweet, easy-going, happy baby the 2nd time around. you are so amazing and complete are family so beautifully!

*my parents and tim's parents- everyday we get to work with you and spend time with you is a pleasure. i know you are there for us no matter what and i can't wait to pass that feeling along to our girls as they grow up

*rich's health...i am so happy you have been able to get the treatment you need to help you and be with all of us. we love you!

*our brothers and sisters - life is more fun with you all and how lucky we are to all live so close together and be able to take advantage of it

*all our friends - though we don't get to see them as often as we would like, it's wonderful to be able to catch up and continue like we had never missed a beat

and now, the pics from our fun day:
here's the centerpiece that was supposed to go on the kids table. i'd like to say avery helped with this one, but she was already asleep and i was running behind - oh well, next year! they loved eating it up!

ready for all our guests:

uncle mike!

long story short about this one - poppy gets popcorn every year to munch on during the game. i found this new popcorn shop in shops at fairview that i talked him into going to because they have this amazing caramel popcorn there - Paul's Caramel! it's to die for people! anyways he ended up getting white cheddar for avery, cashew and caramel but not made with Paul's Caramel and rocky road. the only reason I wanted him to go there was to get Paul's caramel so i not so nonchalantly gave him a hard time about it. wouldn't you know, thanksgiving day he walks in with my own bag of paul's caramel!! you are so sweet and awesome Dad! unfortunately, my bag never made it out to the table with the other flavors - i had to save it and savor every bite myself :) i am so excited!!
